LJ Strike [Thursday March 20th, 2008 3:17pm] [ mood | blah ] This seems to be the hot topic on LJ at the moment. Im reading all these entries and links and seeing all kind of explanations, stories, hysteria and propaganda. OK, yes the owners of LJ are making changes, and as always these changes in the eyes of some people will be poorly planned, executed and generally a bad idea. However, LJ is a service, and as a service it has a terms and conditions, and like everything these can be changed as seen fit. Its not always going to be to the liking of all its users, but if people dont like it then there are plenty of other services out there... But i think that is really a side line and a bit of spin to encourage interaction and support for a basic change in the way LJ works and that is the basic accounts. Yes from now on basic accounts that are free will always come with adverts - but is this such a new and radical thing? Myspace does it, facebook does it... And yes they can be annoying but its a part of internet life. LJ is a business and needs to raise funds and make profits to continue to grow. If it doesnt make money then cut backs will have to be made which will mean it wont grow and probably go backwards with outages and errors on the service - then everyone (espeacially paid users) will be complaining. I think we should all be greatful of the service that LJ provides - and for anyone who is paying for this service and isnt happy then they can always stop paying LJ and pay for some webspace and set up there own URL and blog where they can say what they want when they want and not have any terms and conditions for them to abide by... (Apart from the ISP maybe being against SPAM/PORN lol). TBH it will be a shame if the threads of LJ fall apart because this service does have some distinct advantages over other blog sites - the whole community feel and the way its grown over the years is a major plus... But with most things in life, things change and we as users can only hope they change for the best... Which most of the time they do. Anyways, enough rambling about a daft subject thats taken LJ by storm. It seems to me like a bit of propaganda and hysteria about changes that ok you can disagree with but might not make much difference... All this with a shiney logo and banner to stick on your LJ's to pass around and grow the surge of interest more... The format for both charts is the same, its position, name, number of comments and then positional change from last month in brackets. Well after recent cuts and people disappearing off the LJ map im down to 87 friends. So there are spaces for 13.
