.. . . . talking about Milkshare and breastmilk donation!

a Producer from the show contacted me today after reading about my story in an upcoming article in "Babytalk" magazine and they want to do a segment on milksharing. It should air sometime between May 18th-22nd. I will post again when I know the exact date.

This is GREAT news because so many women have NO idea that breastmilk donation even exists and they think formula is the only option when dealing with low supply. Im hoping this story opens a national conversation on milksharing and broadens views on breastfeeding and how crucial it is to growing babies :)

Retail therapy! [Monday

Retail therapy FTW! (That's "For the win," by the way. *grin*)

I never shop simply for the sake of shopping. But that's basically what I just did. In fact, I placed THREE separate orders on the same site (because I wanted to ship to three separate places, and the site couldn't handle that in one order).

Fabulous! I can't wait to get my goodies.

Also, Chris worked for me today at Runza. I didn't have to walk all over in my sore state. I officially ♥ him. I'll have to post more about that in a girly post later. (Guys, you'd be so grossed out - trust me.)

Back to my tatting for now. I've got to get these bookmarks finished for the boys' teachers - only three days left of school!

More telephone stuff! [Monday

[ mood | nostalgic ]

As my brother is celebrating his birthday today, (and I know he looks in on my scribbles now and again), I hereby repeat one of those lovely 'mother' stories that have had the family falling about with laughter down the years! :)

My mother used to ring me each time she missed a telephone call.

Mum:  "Did you just ring me?"

FJ: "No.  It wasn't me."

Mum: "Are you sure?"

FJ, with loud sigh, replies: "Yes."

Mum:  "Only the phone rang and I thought it must be you!"

FJ:  "Mum, if you have a telephone call just ring 1471 and you'll find out who called you."

Mum:  "Really?"

FJ: "Yes.  Look I'll ring you, you ring 1471 and then you'll know it was me that called and you can ring me back.  You'll be able to do that each time you miss a call!"

Mum:  "Alright!"

FJ:  "Ok, you put the phone down and I'll ring you, then you put in 1471 and ..........." burrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr (as the phone is slapped down at the other end!

I sigh but it is par for the course with my mother.  Dutifully I ring her number and wait for her to ring me back!  30 minutes later, with no telephone call forthcoming, I ring her.

FJ:  "Did you ring 1471?"

Mum, in an annoyed tone, snaps: "Yes!"

FJ: "Well, why didn't you ring me back?"

Mum, defensively:  "I didn't know it was you that rang!  I just got some silly woman who told me a load of numbers and not the name of the person who'd called at all!"

(I couldn't speak as, by this time, I was crying with laughter)! :D

Happy Birthday, Bro! :)

The builder couldn't lay the floor tiles tonight, as promised, (where have we heard that before?), as he rang to say he  was waiting for a wall to go off!  Hmm!   Must be like waiting for wet plaster to dry!

Honestly, men!  They'll come up with any old excuse!

FJ's 'Duh' moment! :/ [Monday

[ mood | silly ]

Someone on my f list, who shall be nameless, (but he's is always being rude about his missus, Mrs. Gnomepants, ) likes to imply that the female of the species is occasionally two pennies short of a pound!  I'm a great believer that this is not the case - females are brighter than males.  Imagine my chagrin, therefore,  when I missed a call on the telephone and had to take down the number instead; a local number that I thought I recognized I might add, and had to inform Mr Warren that I had missed a call.

Mr Warren:  'What number was it?"

FJ:  "8*****.  I've looked in the book and I'm sure I know it but I can't find any customer with that number."

Mr Warren:  "Are you sure you can't place it?"

FJ: "I just can't bring it to mind!  And it's so annoying!  I know that telephone number because it rings a bell!"

It was at this point that Mr Warren fell about laughing and called me a 'silly fool'  - an observation with which I had to concur! :(

I'm bright most of the time but we all have our off days! :(

Luxury [Monday

stegzy
While not typically one to milk luxury to an extent where it no longer becomes a luxury but a necessity. This afternoon, having finished my 3.5 hours of work for the week, I find myself once more sitting in the garden in the lane with no name opposite the field behind the lane with no name, using the laptop and enjoying a G&T with fresh apple juice. This is also accompanied by a rolling tin of tobacco, some cigarette papers and some filter tips.

Of course, the path to such decadence is not bereft without running the neighbour gauntlet. I am within earshot of the G (he of the human dog persuasion) family also lapping up the late afternoon sun which is dappled through the may and hazelnut trees which bulge with blossom and creak under the weight of the chorus of avian menace. I am also within sight of Mrs Owen who before I sat down to relax regaled me with tales of how the other neighbours cavil to her about where cars are parked (rather than confronting those responsible for parking) in the lane with no name and also how Brierley has succumb to a biblical plague of rodentia. Alas I am yet to witness any brown furry things.

And so my afternoon of idle draws to a close with the imminent arrival of Mrs Gnomepants who's first question will be "And what have you done all day?". "Fucked about in the garden" will not be my response.

Feeling hot hot hot... [Monday

....there is no correlation between the sun coming out and staying out and Boris being elected Mayor.

So this weekend was fun, on Saturday I flung open all the window and did some housework. It's so much more draining in the sun. I then headed into Fitzrovia to meet up with an old uni friend John.

We embarked on a Sam Smiths marathon, starting at the Fitzroy Tavern, then the Blue Posts, then the Champion, the to the Ben Crouch for a Sam Smiths break and to have some tea. Bacon and Cheese Potato Wedges - Nommy! After that it was back to the Champion to be joined by my old housemate Andy, Mrs Andy aka Natalia and Mrs Cooper for more beer, before returning to the Blue Posts to finish the night. We drank a lot, I got through about 10 pints, and Mrs Cooper was knocking back the vodka, we talk about politics, work, holidays, teaching and everything else under the sun, metophorically and actually. By the time we got thrown out at closing time, it hadn't cooled down that much and we were all a few sheets to the wind.

We all scampered off the Tottenham Court Road where Mrs Cooper ran off ahead and somehow got on the wrong tube worrying Mr Cooper a lot. But she got home in the end and we slumped into bed.

Mrs Cooper was up for work on Sunday morning and as usual had no hangovers and was very chirpy. Mr Cooper was in a state of perpetual death on Sunday, helped slightly by 2 litres of Lucozade and a big plate of bacon, black pudding and potato cakes. I managed to pull myself together in time to cook a roast chicken dinner. Double nommy! And by the time ALL NEW Family Guy was on last night I was fully recovered, just in time to go to bed.

And now I'm back in my stupid annoying job.

And I will end by linking to two complete different newpaper articles.

The first is a shocking interview with a man who killed his daughter in a honour killing and is proud of it, and the fact that he will not have to face any justice. As you know I hate all religion but it's stories like this that give Islam a bad name and in the eyes of most of the UK a much worse reputation than Christianity.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/may/11/iraq.humanrights

The second is Charlie Brooker's piece from the Grauniad this morning havingh a go and people who claim GTA 4 should be banned and criticise computer games generally. Very funny as always

1) Ran a 9:44 second mile on Sunday! It is soo cool to be under 10 minutes again. Not since high school.

2) Please watch Extreme Makeover Home Edition this Sunday. It is the season finale and they are doing a renovation of a church and GIA (My ever-so-wonderful-at-times company) donated the hymnals for the church. I still appreciate the irony of having the church be named Noah's Ark and it was flooded during Hurricane Katrina. I'm not saying it is funny what happened, but the irony is there.

[ mood | concerned ]

the intruder is bullying me, wearing me down. About an hour ago it came in. I met it in the hallway and this time it came right up to me and let me stroke it and then pleaded with me for food.

I feel so sorry for the poor thing. I've tried to keep it away from me but her ( think by the rear end she was a she) persistence is slowly breaking me down.

A cat who was being looked after and fed regular would not be behaving like this, or not as persistently at any rate. Cats are cheeky and they will wonder in to other peoples homes but this is something different all together. Take last night, I'd opened a pouch of tuna for Oscar but he doesn't seem to like fishy cat food as much as meaty stuff so he wasn't that keen on it. I wasn't going to throw it away knowing that there's a hungry cat out there what would love it. I placed the bowl in the hallway just by the cat flap and sure enough about 10 minutes later the intruder comes in and shnaffles the food but it doesn't just eat the food, it binges it down just like Oscar was doing when he came here.

If the cat does live local then I'm saying that it isn't looked after. For what ever reason, it's not being fed or it isn't going home to be fed. If it had a home, or a home where it wanted to be, it would return home for food. It's a fact that if a cat has food, it'll come home. If this cat had food it would not be eating Oscar's food and it wouldn't be as persistent as it is.

I'm going to test the water with Oscar. I already told him this morning that he's the important one and so if he definitely shows a dislike for the cat being in his home then that will be the final answer and I will feed the cat outdoors and investigate if at all it does have an official home. If it doesn't then I'll get someone to rescue it.

If I'm honest, I'm hoping Oscar takes to it because it is a sweet little thing and would make someone a lovely cat and I'm sure that with someone as placid as Oscar it would make him a good companion too.

**edit**

having written all this out and read it back I now realise I'm happy with just me and Oscar. I don't want another cat.

This year I took part in a game online where I predicted every single Premiership score of the season. I started poorly but soon built up momentum. My goal was to get ahead of [info]andyyyyyy and in the end he got demolished :D:D:D

This screen cap is from an LJ minileague. I'll be doing the same nect year and now I have a few footie fans on my flist I'll look into setting up my own minileague.

In other end of season news - I won £5 off a friend cos I bet West Ham would finish higher than Tottenham. However I have to take my flatmate out for pizza as he beat me in another footie bet.

Bathroom is looking good now. It's tiled. The bath is in. The toilet basin is in too. However, the toilet is unflushable by any means other than a bucket of water. This means Mrs Owen's outside jig is still in use for number 2's.

Spent yesterday afternoon mostly sat in the garden.

Today? Well today I'm heading into Uni to help someone with their assignment resit. Then I'm stacking books in the afternoon while wishing I was somewhere else.

Hope, getting the bird and pulling a rabbit out of a cat ... almost!! [Monday

[ mood | optimistic ]

Today I got plastered!  Or more correctly, the walls got plastered.  This means that the floor tiles can start to be laid and then the painting.  Soon, (although I use the word with some trepidation), the year long rebuilding of the old kitchen will finally be over! (Dances jig)!

The woodpecker has taken up visitation rights to the peanut holder, which hangs from the apple tree in the garden, and sets up a string of vocal complaints if we are in the garden thus indicating that we should disappear back into the house.  So, yesterday, FP and moi were enjoying the sunshine, chomping through ice cream and swigging back the coffee whilst resting on our new bench, when the sweet bird decided that he was in need of refreshment.  There ensued a cacophony of bird calls - angry ones - so FP, a devout ornithologist, said we would have to go back indoors so 'Woody' could eat!  We were forced to slink away like two criminals!

Pickles, the aged moggie, decided that I needed a break from gardening and so struggled across the garden, and gave me the latest gift that she had caught from amongst the numerous wildlife with which the garden abounds.  It's all right folks, I didn't kill the baby bunny wunny! Awww.  No, gormless gussie, picked up the frozen-with-fear little critter and carried it to the bank and, after getting severely scratched by various brambles, let him go in the safety of the undergrowth.  It stared at me, wide-eyed, for all of 1second and then disappeared up the track and into some bushes!  Yes, I know it will come back, bigger, stronger and, probably, with the rest of his family in tow, to lay waste to my garden, but it was so small I didn't have the heart to kill it! :(
